West Dorset: Local Democracy Campaign and a Dorset Magna Carta Cartoon

From View from Online

"The Public First Group will be holding a second meeting at the Electric Palace, Bridport, on Friday (February 20th) at 7pm, where the public will speak first and most. Clive Stafford Smith is chairing the meeting which is looking at two main aspects – how West Dorset District Council is applying its cabinet system of local government, and whether West Dorset District Council / Dorset County Council should be prepared now to consider investigating’ the opportunity to move to a unitary system of local government. The panel at the end of the event comprises five parliamentary prospective candidates, including the current MP for West Dorset, Oliver Letwin (Conservative), and it is hoped the panel will be joined by the leader of West Dorset District Council, Councillor Anthony Alford. Three Dorset County Council members will debate the case for investigating the unitary option – Councillor Mike Byatt for Labour, Councillor Trevor Jones for Lib Dems, and it is hoped that council leader Robert Gould will be accepting his invitation".
