I think I had better send the Philotimo Foundation a copy of my chapter "Philotimo: Perceptions of its Meaning in Works of Popular Anthropology and Fiction" (Corfu Blues, Ars Interpres, Stockholm, 2006, pages 163-172). It's a fairly thorough exploration of the concept.
