"Problems of uncollected waste in Corfu this summer were the first evidence of an issue of this kind directly impacting travel agents’ bookings, Abta has revealed.

Nikki White, director of destinations and sustainability at Abta, told the Elite Travel Group conference in Granada, Spain, the association had never witnessed such a high level of complaints on a destination issue.

She said: “For the first time ever we have seen people contacting members to say they are not going to go to Corfu because of the rubbish. The complaint ratio has been unbelievable.”

She admitted the problem with the build-up of uncollected refuse sacks on the sides of streets on the Greek island had been “horrendous”, adding: “It’s the first thing you see when you come out of the airport and the last thing you see when you leave.” Travel Weekly.

He assured him that a plan was being put into action to resolve the situation once and for all and that come the new year things will have improved and the extreme conditions witnessed this year will not exist during the 2019 tourist season. They also discussed Britain's upcoming exit from the EU in March and possible consequences for the British nationals living in Corfu and the tourism and transport industries".
