"The Grey Pound" Saves Dorset High Streets

- At least that would appear to be the case in Christchurch, Dorset (BBC Regional News between 1.30 and 2pm today).

A high concentration of retired elderly people, many of whom had good jobs, who have paid their mortgages and who enjoy reasonable pensions seem to be sustaining the high streets of Dorset towns like Christchurch.

Is Christchurch an exception, or a temporary, localised reprieve, while the country's serious skills shortages are addressed?
