King Wenceslas, a 1947 Play Recording; Changing British Accents
"KING WENCESLAS - Xmas Play, recorded by HMV in September 1947. Narrated by Frank Phillips, the cast includes Child Star Ann Stephens, Comedian Arthur Askey, Richard Goolden and Florence Desmond. These recordings serve up a warm slice of 1940s nostalgia, and include Christmas music and carols, frightfully posh BBC accents, a talking Jack-in-the-Box and a Daddy who gets home just in time for Christmas! The play is split into two sections and runs for around 16 minutes; it's ideal background listening for slicing vegetables and basting Turkeys..."
