West Dorset New Local Plan and Consultation Period

Important planning documents here

Andy Canning writes:

"Earlier this month West Dorset District Council published a draft Local Plan to cover all aspects of planning and development in our area for the next twenty years.

These plans include locating 9,400 new homes across the District and expanding a number of trading estates.

The largest proposals are:
1,910 new homes in Dorchester – principally at Poundbury and the Brewery
1,200 new homes in Crossways – more than doubling the size of this village
1,120 new homes in Chickerell – nearly doubling the main part of this town
880 new homes in Bridport – on the Vearse Farm site
830 new homes in Sherborne – on the Barton farm site
350 new homes on the West Dorset side of Littlemoor and a further 150 on the Weymouth side
190 new homes in Beaminster
90 new homes in Lyme Regis

You can get the full details and maps by clicking on the link below:

The consultation timetable is very short for this – especially considering the number of issues involved and the fact that this plan will last for twenty years.

There are two main ways to have your say:
complete the online comments form on the website;
go to one of the drop-in events that are running from June 19th to July 11th. The list of these is also on the website.

Whatever you do comments have to be with WDDC by July 27th".
