Dorset: Council Structure Discussion
From Western Gazette
"A meeting will be held to gauge support for a change to Dorset's council structure. Dorset currently has a two-tier structure with services operated by both Dorset County Council and West Dorset District Council. At the meeting campaigners will discuss why they believe Dorset should become a unitary authority. This would mean that all local services would be run by a singular entity. The unitary authority system was adopted in Wiltshire in 2009 and campaigners believe that it would work successfully in Dorset and perhaps save taxpayers money.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 7 at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester. It will be chaired by Dorset based civil rights attorney Clive Stafford Smith".

“800 years after Magna Carta democracy is dead in west Dorset,” Dorchester Independent councillor Alistair Chisholm told the 270 people at the Corn Exchange.
