Corfu: How cold can it get (Hilary Paipeti's Blog)
A graphic description (Real Corfu) of how cold Corfu can become in winter.
And that's nothing to how cold it gets in Ioannina, Zagori (where I am told the water pipes have frozen), Thessaloniki....
Many apartment blocks on Corfu are without heating oil, as some residents can't afford or can't agree to buy it.
Many houses are built for summer conditions. As Hilary writes: " marble-floored ...with concrete-block walls and single-glazed windows".

"Listening to the news and weather reports these days the constant repetition of "The whole of Greece is suffering from snow or otherwise extreme weather conditions" is beginning to be slightly annoying as we look out on day after day of brilliant sunshine and enjoy stunning sunrises and sunsets".

Oh, I know how cold it can get in Greece generally. Used to live in Athens (10yrs) in an old fashioned house. I lived on the ground floor of a big (high-wise) flat. I had what one called a tsomba to heat the whole flat ...Would take it around from room to room but the heat would rise to the ceiling leaving me shuddering ... In winter the atmosphere was really damp and cold.. the walls seemed to ooze out humidity...even in bed the sheets felt cold and wet.... I returned to Switzerland end of 1986 but by then, my bones had already started to change... oh for the warmth of a Swiss home in winter!!
