Forget about Downton Abbey: Life is Toff (at Great Fulford, Devon)

I don't watch much TV, but this new BBC 3 series about an old Devon family is appallingly watchable. About the Fulford family - and the state of Britain? A very untypical small corner of the West Country.

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE, EMBARRASSING SCENES.

Part 1: First Born

"Series following the eccentric and aristocratic Fulford family...Youngest brother Edmund falls foul of a hole in the wall and the family clash as eldest son and heir Arthur seeks ideas on new ways to raise cash to maintain the ancient manor house he'll one day inherit. With the family divided, will Arthur's house tour or his siblings' car boot sale win the day?"

The Independent review

"At least it provides a useful corrective to the likes of Benefits Street, by demonstrating that posh people can be just as ignorant, lazy and badly behaved as anyone else – and with far less excuse".

Francis Fulford's blog: On Garden Cities and Poundbury

"Please -Prince Charles - will you do one more thing for us - give Mr Clegg a call and take him down to see Poundbury and explain to him why high density housing is so much more fun to live in that his ghastly 'garden cities are ever going to be".
