Greece: VAT (FPA), 10% Cut Not Being Passed On To Customers

Φόρος Προστιθέμενης Αξίας

A reduction in Vat = a reduction in prices?
Not in Corfu, it seems.

The existing menus state that the old 23% FPA (VAT) is included in the prices.

The invoices show that the VAT rate on most items is now down to 13%.

The owners pocket the difference.

The result: no tips for the poor waiters.

Challenge each restaurant and cafe until they start passing on the VAT cut and reflect it in new lower prices! Tell the waiters to put pressure on the owners and managers.

Or we could start a campaign to name and shame?

This is an important issue because Prime Minister Samaras made such a song and dance about the VAT rate issue, about making Greek tourism more competitive.
