A fascinating study of the Zagori region of Epirus and the past differences and tensions between different groups of inhabitants and incomers (the historical interaction and changing patterns of co-existence between Zagorisian villagers, semi-nomadic Sarakatsani livestock breeders, Vlachs and Roma) throughout the twentieth century, and in previous centuries, by Vasilis K. Dalkavoukis: an important book that should always stay in print (it was hard to find a copy, as it appears to be out of print). Ideally it should also be made available in other languages.

Prince Charles, Camilla on Corfu this week (Naftemporiki)

"Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, arrived in the Ionian island of Corfu on Wednesday afternoon for a holiday stay at the Rothschild estate".

More from ERT   - "The villa with its unique architecture has dominated the island for more than 40 years, within a vast estate in Kerasia that is filled with ancient pines, waterfalls and rich vegetation.
Security measures since the royal couple's arrival are now extremely tight, with both security personnel and trained dogs guarding the grounds. The villa has often hosted both royals and celebrities, while it was a favourite summer retreat for Princess Diana".

Brexit EU migration study launched

From BBC News - Brexit EU migration study launched by Amber Rudd

'The CBI said businesses "urgently" needed to know what this would look like, both in any "transitional" period after March 2019 and beyond. And the Liberal Democrats said the study had been commissioned a year too late....Lib Dem home affairs spokesman Sir Ed Davey said: "This will do nothing to reassure the hospitals that are already seeing record numbers of EU nurses leaving, or the companies struggling to recruit the staff they need. "The NHS, businesses and universities that depend on European citizens need answers now, not in another 14 months' time."

"To Zagori Mas"; Frixos Tziovas; ΤΟ ΖΑΓΟΡΙ ΜΑΣ Περιοδικό

On Saturday I went to pay for my annual subscription to the excellent periodical, "To Zagori Mas", at Kalli Kiriazi's perfume shop (miropoleio) in Lord Byron Street. Ioannina. Kalli is the daughter of Kimon Kiriazis (1917-1989), the founder of the periodical.

As I had not been able to find a book by Frixos Tziovas in the Ioannina bookshops, I asked Kalli if she knew where I might be able to locate a copy of the new collection of his wonderful short stories.

Kalli very kindly arranged for me to obtain a copy. I am extremely grateful to her.

Frixos Tziovas was born in 1919, in Dovra (Asprangeloi) - Γεννήθηκε το 1919 στους Ασπραγγέλους (Δοβρά) Ζαγορίου.

Rousing all Rebels

One of the fifties' instrumentals (1958) that roused the rebel in me!

A note on the possible source

My listening of choice when re-reading Albert Camus' philosophical work, The Rebel  (L’Homme Révolté, 1951; English translation, 1953)!

Maybe the music won out at times, or conveyed a stronger, more direct message...
