Taking to the Water

A very old photo, just rediscovered

A favourite poem on the transitory nature of life -
by Hugo von Hoffmansthal:

I have lost my old translation, which began like this:

"How can it be that these recent days are gone,
For I can still feel their breath on my cheeks,
Yet they are gone for good and lost for always".
