On Levitation

I found this Edwin Brock poem (Only Child) in the Winter 1961 issue of Critical Quarterly, which also contained Philip Larkin's Breadfruit.

From Only Child

Edwin Brock

At the age of eight I practised levitation:

lay in bed and willed myself six inches

from the ceiling...

Call it what you like,

that nightly jaunt I took, analyse it

as you will, there must have been

some benefit I gained from it – otherwise

I’d have come down long ago.

*****

I wish I could remember how I used to levitate!
