Mr. Lowry's Loves, Glyn Hughes, A Radio Play.
Last night I saw the excellent film Mrs. Lowry And Son. Brilliant acting.
Here's another aspect of the life of the artist L. S. Lowry, Mr. Lowry's Loves, a radio play by my old friend, the late Glyn Hughes, BBC Sounds/Radio 4 Extra,
"When Laurence Stephen Lowry died in 1976, he left nearly his entire fortune to a young woman with whom he happened to share a surname. Her name was Carol Ann Lowry and she'd written to him in 1957 aged 13, hoping to gain some support in her quest to become an artist. Lowry's response was beyond Carol’s wildest dreams. He paid for her convent education, helped her through art school and the pair remained friends until his death. Award-winning writer Glyn Hughes examines the artist's platonic friendships with a succession of young women and their influence on his art".

"Lowry lived in Mottram (seven miles from Stockport, and historically part of Cheshire) from 1948 until his death in 1976. A bronze statue of him seated on a bench is located next to the junction of Hyde Road and Stalybridge Road, and there is a commemorative plaque on his former home, "The Elms" on Stalybridge Road".
