Thomas Hardy on Swimming in Weymouth; Unmatched Bathing; Liquid Life; The Pebble Beach towards Preston

From The Dynasts, Act IV (King George III to William Pitt The Younger, Prime Minister)

"The bathing is unmatched
Elsewhere in Europe, see its mark on me! -
The air like liquid life."

In Weymouth, Hardy would swim at seven in the morning from the pebble beach towards Preston, or diving off from a boat.

He also enjoyed floating on his back. Swimming was a wonderful tonic.
