Time for Some Optimism; Light Over Darkness.
I have been watching scenes from the ballet Excelsior, La Scala Ballet.
I'm not big on ballet (I prefer contemporary dance), but the concluding scenes from Excelsior presented a vibrant and colourful vision of the victory of Light over Darkness, of the Enlightenment, Civilisation, Multiculturalism, and Peace between nations.
Optimistic kitsch? Maybe. Brash? Perhaps. Plenty of horrors, including Fascism, followed throughout the twentieth century and into the twenty-first century.
From the scenes I watched, it was uplifting - just the kind of tonic we need at this moment of world history.
Beautiful staging, dancing and music. I wish I'd seen a live performance.
