Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar and the waiting room of history, Pankaj Mishra
I am posting a link to this article by Pankaj Mishra because it was sent to me by a Greek friend in Corfu. I am studying it with interest and thinking about the ways in which some of the observations may also apply to Greece and other countries. This piece first appeared as the introduction to The Time Regulation Institute.
I haven't read the novels of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar. Here's a New York Times book review of The Time Regulation Institute. One for reading this summer.
THE TIME REGULATION INSTITUTE
By Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar, Translated by Maureen Freely and Alexander Dawe, Penguin.
