TLS article, 5 May
"A. E. Stallings, speaking last week at an event for the University of Oxford, is the only woman candidate in contention to be Oxford’s next Professor of Poetry (see Letters this week). One of her supporters is the critic Christopher Ricks, who describes her thus: “a classicist as was Housman, an American as Eliot once was, at home in and with the Mediterranean, who is able to realize in her poems the myriad minds of Europe”. Here at the TLS her supporters include J.C. and Mary Beard. Adam Kirsch has called her “one of the leading poets of her generation . . . consistently, confidently eloquent”. If elected she would be the first woman to take up the post since its foundation in 1708"
