Greece: An Urgent (Infra-) Structural Reform Problem; The Management of Hazardous Waste; Illegal Dumps
From Kathimerini - Ερχεται πρόστιμο για τα επικίνδυνα απόβλητα
EU fines for the mismanagement of hazardous waste - apart from fines for continual non-compliance over illegal dumps
In English
"The European Commission has asked the European Court of Justice to fine Greece for its failure to manage hazardous waste. Previously convicted by the court in 1999 for failing to comply with the EU’s landfill directive, Greece could pay 17.7 million euros in fines, plus a daily penalty of 8,096 euros until it solves the problem".

Apart from health and safety and environmental issues - and the economic costs of the fines - the problems of poor waste disposal, collection and management are major deterrents to return-tourism in many locations.
It should be a priority.
