UK: The Dog Population- Counting the Costs
I believe that the UK's dog population is estimated to be around nine million dogs.
Estimates vary between 8.5 million and 10.5 million.
How many of those dogs belong to dangerous breeds?
In view of some terrible and tragic cases of deaths caused by mauling, it is important and in the interests of all dog-owners that the Dangerous Dogs Act is kept under regular review.

What about the economics?
The average annual cost of keeping a dog in the UK is around £1,200. A dog's lifetime cost averages out at around £17,000.
