Simon Armitage, Poetry Pilgrimage
Walking, without any money
"The poet, who has won numerous awards, is journeying on foot from Minehead in Somerset along the north coast of the South West Coast Path to Land's End then on to the Isles of Scilly.
He is hoping to see if he can pay his way giving readings, and then inviting whoever is listening to contribute whatever they think he is worth".
Poetry readings in return for bed and breakfast- if he's lucky.
With video
Update, 20 September
The Poetry Pilgrimage must have finished, according to his website itinerary
News awaited!
From his poem, Afterword, some lines that could apply to brothers as much as to twins who travel through life in different directions, before returning to their childhood home:
"And they see for themselves,
each eyeing the other
through a telescope now
which had once been a mirror."
Update, 29 November 2015, Oxford Today - Simon Armitage sets out his stall as Professor of Poetry
