Back to Bach, and Leipzig
Time for a change
6 Harpsichord Concertos (YouTube)
J.S.Bach, home page
I was last in Leipzig and Bach's Thomaskirche (St. Thomas Church) on 9 November, 1989. I was making an official visit to the GDR (4-12 November 1989) and the Karl-Marx University in Leipzig, as part of an extensive three month tour of the countries of Eastern and Central Europe, in order to write an English Language-Teaching Sector Report, with recommendations for UK support and action.
The Leipzig section of my report begins:
"A historic day, a date which historians may use to symbolise the end of the Cold War or of the Second World War even, the day on which East Germany's borders were to be declared open."
Bach served at Thomaskirche for 27 years. Watch the video (YouTube)
