An exciting programme of Antonioni films at the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, to celebrate the great Italian film-director's centenary. Antonioni was born on 29 September 1912.
Although I won't be able to make it to Washington, I hope my daughter will find an opportunity to catch up with some of the films that impressed my generation. She's just arrived there, en famille, and will be working in the media in Washington.
So many centenaries of note this year and next: Lawrence Durrell, Michelangelo Antonioni, Albert Camus...
Some YouTube excerpts from Antonioni's films, for great lessons in film-making and composition

For an extraordinary analysis of Antonioni's China documentary, from the Chinese point of view at the time, see the People's Daily (1974) and excerpts cited in my Sight and Sound article "Is there an international film language?" (Sight and Sound, Spring 1979, p.77).
