I'm working on a paper and presentation about the Suliots (Souliots) in Corfu. Update: Now published as a chapter in this book.
I hope to go to Suli over the weekend of 29-30 May. Each year I've missed the gathering and re-enactment of events.

Perhaps fancifully (or perhaps not, if Parga had been swelled with Suliot refugees) the Parginotes are dressed in Suliot style. I often wonder if the turbanned chibouk-smokers in British depictions of Corfu are Souliots or just Orientalist fantasies.

Which parts of Corfu do you think hosted the most refugees from Parga and Souli?
Apart from British depictions, it is also interesting to compare perceptions of the Souliots as revealed in the books and writings of Corfiot historians, ie by individuals of Ionian Island ancestry and by others of Souliot descent. Very different!
